I realize that I am going to get some freaky search hits because of this title, but it's something I wanted to talk about. Some of you may know that James is a massage therapist. He is very good at it and has worked on patients from around the world (Argentine Rugby Team: The Pumas, South Korean pastor, tennis stars...and the list goes on.)
James specializes in medical, or sports, massage. Men are inherently better at this type of massage because of the strength needed to really work with sore athletic muscles. It has recently come to my attention that many male athletes don't want a man working with them. They want a young woman. It's kind of frustrating because this is how we pay the bills. (Blogging doesn't pay the mortgage...I'll tell you that much!)
If you don't mind, pop up to the top of this page and take my little survey. If you would like, leave a comment as to how you feel concerning this issue. Just something I'm thinking about today...

I've had one massage in my life - performed by a woman. I would have NO problems with James, er, any other man, giving me one. ;-)
Seriously, given his type of specialty, I think it is silly for a male athelete to be concerned or embarrassed to receive a massage from a male therapist.
That surprises me too that male ATHLETES would have an issue with a male therapist for what is primarily medical/ therapeutic in nature. That being said, I know that my husband would prefer a female therapist. But he's not an athlete, it would be for relaxation. I know he had deep muscle massage when he was a teenager when he did something weird to his leg, and the RMT was a fellow, he remembers it being painful but helpful. And didn't mind that it was a guy for medical reasons. It must be so frustrating for James.
My niece is an RMT, a great profession!
