Research on acorns and winters

I love old wive's tales and farmer knowledge regarding the seasons. With the veritable rainfall of acorns in our yard, I thought I would do a bit of research concerning the old tale of acorns and wintertime. To my surprise, I found that many areas around the country are experiencing this same abundance of acorns.

How about you? Have you ever heard stories of the amount of acorns falling predicting the weather in any way? Do me a favor and vote above. I would love to hear what my readers think. If you have any comments or suggestions to improve the poll, please leave it in the comment box. I look forward to hearing from you all!

Dear Becca,
Alice and I have noticed when we have a good wet year the acorns are more abundant. Dry years, most acorns abort. Yes, we also have a great crop. The deer and ferral hogs in the woods are fat and sassy. Also the squirrels are fat. This means we will now have a good crop of woods critters.

Our neighbors are full of these kind of old wisdom sayings. I'd say about 1/2 of them have been accurate in the time we've lived here.

Our acorns are less than normal. Small and not as many, but we had a hot dry summer. I believe that means according to the neighbors, a mild winter.
