I love beautiful days...

And today was no exception. It wasn't quite as sunny as yesterday, but it was definitely warmer. So, I planted monkey grass, two lemon trees and a grapefruit tree. In my greenhouse, I started a flat of herb seedlings: sage, chives, parsley and Linda's hollyhocks. I would love for all our pathways to be lined with those beautiful flowers!

Last night, I was seduced into making yet another recipe from Pioneer Woman Cooks. I made the quesadillas with green and red peppers, onions and monterrey jack cheese. We adorned the meal with avocado halves and fresh salad from our garden. The best part? I'm afraid it came in a can. Rotel has a diced tomato product with cilantro and lime. I added chopped culantro (that's not a misspelling, it's a different plant!) to the mix and chilled it. Divine!

I found this plant in the produce section of the grocery store last night. I have never really paid attention before to the live herb plants because they're always the regular, half-dead variety. This plant definitely caught my eye! If you like cilantro, try this herb--it has a bit of a kick.

Oh, by the way, my official website for The Home Gnome is finally up. Take a look around. Tell me what you think. Seriously. I would love some pointers for narrative, color scheme and so forth...

Funny...

I find the search terms that lead to my blog relatively amusing. If you normally read here, then you have seen my list of random search terms. One of the top search terms is still "pink atlas sewing machine." Atlas sewing machine, one day you will be mine!!

Since yesterday's post about the Daniel fast, at least two folks have found their way to my blog looking for information on tortilla chips and Daniel fasting. Yes, I know that's not a huge crowd, just thought it peculiar... It would have been interesting enough if they were looking for corn tortilla chips. No, they were specifically looking for info on those topics together!

So, to any of you who are here looking for info on eating tortilla chips while you are on a Daniel fast, let me give you some advice you may be seeking. Unless you have made the tortilla chips yourself--baked, not fried--you shouldn't be eating them!

Good night all.

Daniel Fasting and Corn Tortilla Chips

We're supposed to be fasting. The whole church. For 21 days. It's actually a very simple fast. Beans, rice, fruits, veggies, whole grains and so forth. Nothing fried or processed. That's how we normally eat. No big deal there. But wait, there's more: no dairy...or coffee. What??!!?? I was set up for failure before I even began!

We had a beautiful meal of lentils and brown rice with hummus and chapatis last night. This morning, all the nice whole grain chapatis are gone. I am hungry for hummus and what do I have? No carrots or celery. I have tortilla chips. I also have homemade chocolate cake but that's an entirely different story. Thanks, Amanda.

Have any of you ever been on a Daniel Fast? How did you do? What were your thoughts? Let me know.
