My Favorite Plant: Carnival Edition #2
Well, it has been two weeks since our last edition and we have some fun plants to see this week. I am always on the lookout for folks who are posting about their little plants, so don’t be surprised to find your post here…even if you didn’t enter!!
First, we have Alexandra, who presents Mystery Plant Identified! posted at Happy Hearts At Home.
Then, we have Michelle. Michelle presents Paphiopedilum posted at scribbit. In case you haven't seen some of her plants, she has one to strike fear into the hearts of most mortals!
Now, for everyone who doesn't know that Stephanie is a wild foods forager, this entry may strike you as a little odd. I've tried it though. And, it's good! Stephanie presents Pokeweed posted at Stop the Ride!.
My entry for this carnival was late, as usual, but as the host I have special privileges. Antique Roses are some of my favorite plants around. For years, I wouldn't even attempt to try my hand at roses. Now, I have a miniature, a Queen Elizabeth, an unnamed, several New Dawns, a Don Juan, a large rose I was told is a Seven Sisters (but I have my doubts) and these lovely Chestnut Roses.
Random entries of my own choosing
Linda always post such beautiful pictures. I wanted to give everyone a chance to see her Lovely Hollyhocks from this past April.
Isabella is a kindred spirit on Flickr. Check out some of her lovely photos of her farm out in Oregon.
I love Greg's post about this lovely magnolia in his backyard. Check it out!
Finally, check out Katie's beautiful photography and plants in her post of African Violets
That concludes this edition of the plant carnival. Please join us next week when we do it all again!

Oops!
I almost forgot to post my made from scratch entry for this week. I enjoyed this one so much that I wanted to make sure everybody tried it. I was reading a massage and bodywork book of ours and (for some reason), it had a recipe for Curried Egg Salad in one chapter. Well, I took one look at that photo and new I was seeing my lunch. You all, it is lovely. Put extra curry powder in it, though!
Curried Egg Salad on Homemade Jewish Rye Rolls
6 hard-boiled eggs
1/3 cup low-fat mayonnaise
1 T dijon mustard
1/2 t curry powder (puh-leeze! I bet I used a tablespoon of that delish stuff!)
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Jewish Rye Rolls
I made the dough using the breadmaker on 1 hr cycle!
1 cup + 1 T warm water
1 T yeast (use more b/c this is a quick cycle)
1 T sugar/honey
let yeast react with water and sugar
add,
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup corn meal
1/4 cup oatmeal
1 T olive oil
2 T sunflower seeds
1-2 T caraway seeds
1/2 t salt (not much b/c of quick cycle!)
Knead dough until "elastic." Shape dough into rolls (makes about 8), let rise about 30 minutes and bake 15-20 minutes on 350 degrees farenheit

The thrifter in me...
I have been wanting to post some fun pictures of some of my thrifty finds here lately. Something or other keeps stopping me. Yesterday, the whole computer conspired against me. James' poor iPod is still non-functional. I'm just hoping I'm not the one who harmed it. We do use a Mac. I almost think it's a lemon or we abuse it, 'cause it gives us more trouble than we like. Granted, it's still not a lot of trouble. Just some.
Whoa, back to photos of thrifting. I can't even keep track of what day it is, so of course my posts are going to wander as well. I have some great pictures here and they will definitely be entered into the carnival of thrift for next week.
check them out!
1930s Sterno Vaporizer, complete with cookstove--$5

Holiday Designs Canister Set: 1960s--$10 for all four!

Now that's a cute chicken. I don't think it does anything, though!--$.50
unmarked salt and pepper shakers: Pyrex Style--$.99 for set

I love my new hat! It came with the original receipt! $11.33! Unfortunately, the year was not included on receipt. The top is velvet and the brim is composed of real feathers. Super cool!--$5

Carnival Day...
Hi all,
As you can see, I am not posting the carnivals this week. I have been feeling a wee bit stressed lately and am trying to get things back together. I need a schedule! Never fear, I am slowly coming to grips with organization.
We will hold the carnivals every Thursday (or every other Thursday), depending on the amount of entries received for the week. So, if you thought you missed the deadline for this week...you didn't! Keep those entries coming.
I keep finding such great posts as I read on other people's pages. I'm hoping to link to some of their ideas as well. Well, let's get those entries coming!

My favorite plant--carnival!
Hi all! Welcome and thanks for joining us for the first edition of the "my favorite plant" carnival. This carnival has proved to be popular from its inception...but tell all your friends and link back so more folks can join in the fun. The concept is to choose a plant each entry that you admire very much or long to have in your garden. The categories for entry are: my garden, stranger's garden, only in my dreams (peonies, for me! they hate the hot and humid Florida weather!).
Without further ado, here are our entries for the week...
my garden
Stephanie presents Wild Iris posted at Stop the Ride!, saying, "I love this little flower. So petite and pretty without any nurturing at all."
savingadvice presents
How To Reuse Items In Your Garden Rather Than Throwing Them Into The Trash posted at Personal Finance Advice, saying, "Before throwing it away, can it be reused in the garden?"
Lexi Sundell presents
Stages of Tomato Growth in Photos posted at
Energies of Creation, saying, "I am passionate about my tomatoes which are difficult to grow well in this short season climate. This article illustrates the growth stages of my tomato plants using methods I developed for my situation. The goal is a ripe tomato by June!"
Sam presents How To Grow a Herb Garden in a Pot. This Tasty Garden is All About Flavor!!! posted at Surfer Sam and Friends.
Becca presents I love begonias! posted at
Unplugging the "Stuff" Machine, saying, "I am trying to collect as many begonias as possible!"
That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of
my favorite plant using our carnival submission form.

The Carnival of thrift!
Today marks the first day of struggling with the HTML for this carnival linkage. Whew! Someone is going to have to tell me how to do this easily, 'cause it's not working for me! Anyway, for our first edition, we have two wonderful thrifters, of course, that does include me. I want you! for our next edition...
Welcome to the May 9, 2007 edition of i went thrifting today....
We have several categories: garage sale, treasure piles and thrift store. Our first entry is in the garage sale category:
the ever-thrifty Stephanie presents
The First Yard Sale of the Seasonposted at
Stop the Ride!, saying, "Let the fun begin!"
Our second entry is in the thrift category, because I am nothing if not thrifty!
Becca presents
about those photos... posted at Unplugging the "Stuff" Machine, saying, "What great deals!"

Those carnivals!
Hi all, if you tried to post an entry to either of my carnivals but were unable to do so because of the past deadline, please try again! I am slowly coming to grips with how to edit the blame thing and will have a handle on it soon! So, come on out and play.

What with joining carnivals and all...
I know it's a little late in life to join the carni...but I've gone and done it. I made two new carnivals in BlogCarnival. These two carnivals feature two of my loves: thrift shopping and gardening.
The gardening carnival consists of posting a photo of your current favorite plant/flower in your garden or someone else's garden. The entry should also include a few lines as to why you admire this plant.
The thrift carnival is all about showing off what you found while out thrifting or garage saling for the week. Linda already does this on her blog and other folks may as well, so I thought we could make a party of it!
Here is a link to my carnivals. They are not completely set up, but you can browse around in them if you would like...
