Kimono-Style Child's Apron

Since featuring my open back apron earlier, I have been longing to create my own version of this apron. I assumed it would be easy to recreate since it consists of only three pieces plus the tie. Today, with the ElfGirl in town, I fashioned an open backed apron fit for a child. As we were eating lunch, it occurred to us that this apron will make a handy smock for most activities as well.

And don't even get me started on how cute this little machine is! It's a Janome sewing machine and it's listed on the Wize review site with a rating of 98. That's out of 100, folks. It's a child-size machine, but one review of this little gizmo mentions that a presser foot for a standard machine can be substituted if the foot on the Janome sewing machine is not sufficient. Can't you just imagine the ElfGirl whipping out her own apron with this sweet little machine? Of course, for those of you who don't appreciate the Hello Kitty design, the Janome sewing machine comes without the logo as well. At a sturdy 14 pounds (that's three bags of flour), this little machine seems to mean business. Take a look at some of the features available:
• Adorable compact sewing machine—perfect for Hello Kitty fans—with 6 built-in stitches plus buttonhole
• Features reverse stitch for reinforcing seams, easy lay-in threading system and 4-point feed-dog system to keep fabric feeding straight
• Has a free-arm design for sewing hard-to-reach areas, a handle for simple moving from room to room and a snap-on foot system
• Made of high-impact ABS resin; UL listed
• 10Hx5.62Wx12.75L"

Now, that machine is something your child can use for years to come! Hope I can teach ElfGirl to sew soon. She is super intrigued by the machinery...sorry for the weird formatting. Not sure what's going on here!
Without further ado, I introduce to you the Kimono-Apron!

Can you feel the anticipation?? She just wants to help...
Not so sure Aunt Becca knows what she's doing, but I'm a good sport...
Ahh! It's an apron! Can I take it off now?

It's gorgeous, Becca! I love the shade of blue and the butterflies are so whimsical!
I definitely will bookmark that sewing machine for Eve. She is going to learn from my mom in a couple of years, but it's good to know what I am looking at machine wise.
